(Part of The Weekly Check In series)

Ladies and Gentlemen I’d like to introduce you to Zac Little.
Zac sings and plays instruments in the band Saintseneca who I just had the honor (with the help of Kurt Lane) of releasing their new 4 song 7″ / digital EP which is out now on Paper Brigade. Zac lives in Columbus, OH and I hope to someday hang out with the talented awesome guy since we’ve known each other for a few months now. Here’s a little check in with him where he talks about the recent tour, new record, and more.
You can listen to more Saintseneca at Myspace, check out the new record at Paper Brigade and read their tour blog here.
Rubin: What are you currently working on or just finished that you’re excited about?
Little: I can’t tell you how excited I am about the release of this 7″. It’s been quite the process from beginning to end, and when you take into account the time we’ve spent writing and recording the songs, it’s probably taken more up more of my time in the past year than anything else. That moment when we opened the box of records and then sat on the couch and listened to them was like magic.
I’ve also been working on some other things like designing and screen printing some posters for the 7″ release show. Saintseneca is playing this little festival called DIT (do it together) fest, Grace and I have been working on making t-shirts with a pocket in the shape of Ohio to sell.
I also just finished moving, which I’m very excited about. I now live in a house with 11 people, which is awesome. Before, I was living alone. You can’t play hide and seek alone in a small apartment. Well you could, but it would suck. We’ve already had a good round of lights out hide and seek here.
Rubin: Where have you traveled so far this month?
Little: I’ve done a lot of traveling this month. Saintseneca did a two week tour so I’ve been to Chicago, Milwaukee, Bloomington, Lexington, Louisville, Richmond, New York (specifically Harlem), Boston, Willimantic, Waterbury, New Paltz, and Pittsburgh.
Five of us traveled in a ford focus almost the whole trip.
Rubin: What’s your favorite music right now?
Little: We probably listened to Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavillion at least 40 or 50 times on tour, and I’m not exaggerating. We had our fair share of 6-9 hour drives and the album was on repeat for much of that. I think its totally brilliant.
I’ve also been really into Prince Nico Mbarga. It’s like Nigerian highlife afro pop from the 60′s and 70′s. They do all this quirky stuff and have the coolest guitar sounds ever. Listen to the song Nature if you ever get the chance.
Rubin: Best food you’ve had in your neighborhood lately or while you were traveling?
Little: Twin Donuts in Boston, donuts are a personal vice of mine so this was top notch.
The tempeh ruben from the food co-op in Milwaukee completely outclassed any meat rubens I’ve had.
In Willimantic, CT there is a local soda manufacturer. It’s awesome because at the local food co-op you can do a mix and match 6 pack, and they’ve got a lot of unique flavors. I drank almost all of mine in one day, in the car, which resulted in frequent pit stops.
Rubin: Anything else you want to mention?
Little: I want to say thank you to Kurt and Matt. Is it weird to thank you on your own blog? Oh well, you deserve it, you guys did an outstanding job on the record, that means a lot to us.
peace.
