(Part of The Weekly Check In series)

Michelle Blade makes very magical paintings (yup, that’s the best way to describe them.) She lives in San Francisco and I’m glad I get to see her now that I live here. You can see her work at http://michelleblade.com.
RR: What are you currently working on or just finished that you’re excited about?
Blade: I just made some killer pasta with a bunch of random stuff thrown together. Pear and goat cheese ravioli with olive oil and parmesan, sweet potatoes, cabbage, red onion and red grapes. Surprisingly turned out to be wonderful.
RR: Where have you traveled so far this month?
Blade: In September i went to New York for a group show with a bunch of friends. It was amazing! Hot nights and long epic days of adventure. I haven’t run around that crazy in ages, it was so much fun. Right after that I went to Maui, which was also amazing and much more relaxing. I surfed every morning and read tons, classic vacation mode.
RR: What’s your favorite music right now?
Blade: I’m really feeling mix Cd’s lately. I’ve been trying the response kinds where you make one and then another person has to responds to each song with a song of their choice. Or just trading is great. Simon Evans is making some awesome mix tapes and posting them and the artwork on his blog, http://simonandgarfield.blogspot.com
I know that isn’t too specific as far as bands go so here are some of my standbys:
Brian Eno, Television, The People Under the Stairs, Angus and Julia Stone, CunninLynguists, Fleetwood Mac, The Cave Singers, Dennis Wilson, James Taylor, The National, Otis Redding, Robert Wyatt, Shocking Blue, Flying Lotus, Loretta Lynn, Peanut Butter Wolf, My Barbarian, Jorge Ben, the Zombies, Stevie Wonder, and Cat Power. ..that list could probably go on and on.
RR: Best food you’ve had in your neighborhood lately or while you were traveling?
Blade: Mandalay hands down. (A Burmese restaurant across the street from my house that blows my mind every time.)
RR: Anything Else You Want To Mention?
Blade: I’m stoked about fall and trusting the universe.
