The Weekly Check In with Julia Galdo

(Part of The Weekly Check In series)

Julia Galdo is an amazing photographer. Since the day I discovered her work on Flickr, I can’t help but get excited everytime I see she has an update.

You can see her portfolio at http://www.juliagaldo.com and her Flickr here.

RR: What are you currently working on or just finished that you’re excited about?

Galdo: I’m super stoked on the personal work I’m doing lately. Shooting around with my friends or a couple of models that Ford sends to me. I actually haven’t been hired a bunch lately as a photographer, but I’m okay with that because it’s given me a lot of time to shoot what I want. While looking for a place to eat lunch last weekend, I stumbled across this tiny little airstrip for one engine planes. They had a cafe where we were able to sip milkshakes and watch the planes come in and take off. Once we befriended the pilots, they let us out on the airstrip and photograph each other with the planes. It’s work like this that I’m most excited about.

RR: Where have you traveled so far this month?

Galdo: This month has been a whirlwind: L.A. for a BBQ, Las Vegas to shoot Nike Air Jordan, New York  to visit my bud Katy Mcleod and back to L.A. to do my first wardrobe styling gig for McCann Ericson.

RR: What’s your favorite music right now?

Galdo: I’ve been listening a lot to this album of solo piano work by Gonzales. I’m about to take lessons again, and I think I’ll try to learn those songs, so I’ve been trying to pick up on it.

RR: Best food you’ve had in your neighborhood lately or while you were traveling?

Galdo: While I was traveling this month, I ate at a place in queens that was a South American joint. I was SO STOKED because they actually had excellent platanos and and arepas…and I was so hungry. That was a good day too, because Katy and I had just scored hard at the thrift store and this restaurant (called Los Basuereos…the trashmen) has about 20 old mannequins doing crazy things around the place….like playing the piano or getting down in a hammock above us.

RR: Anything Else You Want To Mention?

Galdo: Photographer for hire. Hi Mom and Dad.
